< Production 3 – from week 9~12 >

Brief 3

To begin with this brief 3, I should mention about some changes in my e-portfolio. As I added the section ‘My Resume’, I changed the arrangement a little bit. I put the ‘My Resume’ section under the Profile because I thought they are the quite connected topics. So I moved two pictures to the right side where other medias are. Also the reference section has moved in the middle at the last. I reckon it would look better with a new arrangement ^^*

Now, I want to talk about what I learnt from ‘i refelct’ as developing my first e-portfolio. At the beginning I really didn’t have any ideas about e-portfolio and how I’m going to manage it. However, as time goes by I got more familiar and knew more about it and even sometimes I could give some help to my classmates as well which made me feel so great. I think it was a really good opportunity to learn more about ‘e’ stuffs as well as one of my favorite areas – SLA. As it was the first time to make my personal e-portfolio I’m sure that there are lots of things to be improved. But I feel still happy about what I’ve done so far because I learnt valuable new ideas and skills for the future. It could provide better chance for my future job or further study. I particularly made my e-portfolio for further research with one of my interests, which is the subject that I want to study in graduate school, and it has increased my interests for child education in ESL. I quite appreciate that to ‘i reflect’ ^^::

< Production 2 – from week 5~8 >

Brief 2

• First of all, I introduced myself very briefly at the left top which could be used to grab interests from people as sharing about me, but I decided not to show too much personal stuff so I put my e-mail for who want for further contact.

• In the middle of the top, I put blog post section because I think it is one of the most important parts in my view as including almost of my research results.

• The second row in the middle is for my reflection for this paper. Instead just writing directly in my view, which could be quite long and messy looking, I put the link to follow with the title ‘My reflection for iReflect’. It directs readers to another blog on blogger.com that I created and they can read what I wrote and comment on my writings as well as communicate with me freely.

• The next row is for the ‘Useful Links’. They are also all linked so it’s very convenient to use as a resource section.

• At the bottom of them I put three pictures. There were really a lot of pictures when I looked for some images that related with SLA and made me hard to decide which ones to use. ^^:: The first picture that I selected ‘Teaching Kids’ shows the key concept when we teach children – play, learn and grow together. The bottom picture ‘Old Fashioned’ shows a kind of old way of teaching - a teacher tells and students listen – in a cartoon. The reason why I chose this image is that I wanted to advise the way of teaching is changing continuously in a more active, more students participated and more volunteered way. The last image ‘World Language –English’ shows the importance of learning English as a second language to communicate better with the people from all over the world. Particularly, I like this picture because it tells to students one of the exact reasons to learn English in a very obvious way.

• I arranged the ‘Media’ and ‘Videos’ section at the right side as they are in common for the formation. The reason why I provided these is that they are more visual objects comparing with simple writing research and I guess there would be more chance to get interests from the viewers as well as providing information or knowledge with more familiar way within a modern society.

• Reference – It is the part that I’ll include all of the resources that I used for my research.

< Production – from week 5~8 >

Brief 2

The topic Second Language Acquisition is very broad so I chose three particular topics to research on.

1. Definition of SLA
2. Stages for SLA – Processing
3. Age factor for SLA

The reasons why I chose these topics were I want to make sure the meaning of SLA before I go for further study on it and I thought these are the most important background knowledge to develop more ideas. Also I’ve heard some debates going on about the ‘age factor’ when people learn second language and I hoped to find out that there is a certain answer or not.

As I started at the Mahara for my view, I found some limitations with it. Actually, there was a choice between Mahara and blogger.com but most of our classmates were using Mahara and also one of my teachers recommend that Mahara is a good staring point so that’s why I decided to use it. There were limitations to show my works in a tidy and nice way with a view. I mean I couldn’t choose for the arrangement - It was just like all the texts were spread out through whole web site. However, I found a better method for better arrangement as I talked with my classmates – using blog section at the mahara. That was the exact way how I wanted to show my works in nice, clean and easy as just clicking links to read articles or watch video clips etc. So I posted all my texts in the blog pages and they all appeared as ‘recent blog posts’ in my view.

< Proposal – from week 1~4 >

First of all, the topic ‘e-portfolio’ was very new subject to me and I didn’t have any ideas at all what I have to do. During week 1 and week 2 our class talked and researched about e-portfolio and getting to know about it. Through the research, I found that e-portfolio is a good way to represent yourself or your knowledge with modern technology which also can be the approach to show one of my abilities in using computer skills.

At week 4, I posted some terminologies that related with e-portfolio to class wiki (aut online) and registered as a member of ireflect blog to share ideas with my classmates as developing our assets. I posted some in the blog but I think that wasn’t enough which I could do more and also I guess the blog communication didn’t work so well among our classmates either. This is because they might be too busy with working on their own Mahara?!

Until the end of week 4 I created my view at Mahara and submitted my proposal as a starting point of my development. I chose a topic as a “Second Language Acquisition” because I’ve always had lots of interest about it and thinking to go graduate school with that major so I want to develop more ideas about it with more research. Also I’m taking ‘iresearch’ as one of my core papers and the topic SLA is the same topic that I research on.

I suppose the ESL students who have similar interests with me would be audiences of my developments as well as some ESOL teachers who want to get useful resources for their teaching because I planned to put some links that have lots of good materials for ESOL teaching, like listening and reading comprehension, wring topics, grammar exercises and so on.

Therefore my asset tends to be used for more research like developmental work for my special interest instead of just simple showcase for my prospective employers or my lecturers.
